Country music has long been a bastion of conservatism and American values.
While there are notable exceptions like Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift, country music has largely espoused family values and a blue-collar ethic that Americans have embraced for years.
Of course, since it is 2023 and Joe Biden’s America, even country music has been infected with the woke mind virus.
There has been a grass-roots movement in the genre of late towards more Americana, traditional country music. While Swift and her ilk are surely successful in peddling pop-country music, artists like Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, Oliver Anthony, and Morgan Wallen have been setting the charts on fire with their gritty, traditional styles of music reflecting small-town values and conservative ideology. Naturally, this type of music and belief system has sent the liberal left spinning into the stratosphere with disbelief that folks could actually identify with and love this type of conservative, traditional music. For one ultra-left artist, she has had enough.
Apparently disregarding the fact that country music isn’t an airport and she doesn’t have to announce her departure, semi-famous singer Maren Morris announced her departure from the genre, much to the dismay of her dozens of fans. Rather than just gracefully bow out and decide to make mediocre pop music, Morris instead chose to blame Donald Trump, Jason Aldean, Morgan Wallen, and the majority of country fans for her decision to abandon the genre.
Rather than choosing to allow fans to like what they like and artists to sing about what they wanted to sing about, Morris decided to rage against the conservative machine and finally admitted defeat. She said: “It just revealed who people really were and that they were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic.”
It’s unclear exactly what racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and transphobic songs Morris was referring to, but regardless, she has decided to take her microphone and go home. However, she made sure to blame the popular liberal scapegoat, also known as former president Donald Trump for her unhinged failings.
What is equally odd is Morris’ assertions that she is some sort of pioneer in the genre of country music. Her claim that she is “one of the few women that had any success on country radio” simply doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. Reba McIntire, Tammy Wynette, Trisha Yearwood, Suzy Boggus, Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, and countless others would like to have a word with Morris about their careers.
It is a sad career arc for a once-promising artist. Rather than just accepting folks might like music for their own personal reasons, Morris is convinced that people are simply streaming and spending their money out of spite. A dubious assertion considering how tight money is under Joe Biden. She claimed: “People are streaming these songs out of spite. It’s not out of true joy or love of the music. It’s to own the libs. And that’s so not what music is intended for. Music is supposed to be the voice of the oppressed — the actual oppressed. And now it’s being used as this really toxic weapon in culture wars.”
It’s unclear why Morris thinks music is supposed to be the voice of the oppressed rather than entertainment for individuals based on individual taste. Clearly, it is whatever she thinks it is supposed to be, and since the majority of country fans don’t agree with her narrow-minded views, she is taking her microphone and going home, and country music is all the better for it.
