Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast: A Nostalgic DelightCreamed Chipped Beef on Toast: A Nostalgic Delight

Do you ever find yourself longing for the comfort foods of your childhood? For me, one of those dishes is chipped beef on toast.

It may not be the most extravagant or healthy recipe, but it holds a special place in my heart.

My mom and dad used to make it for us frequently when we were growing up, and to this day, it remains one of my all-time favorite breakfasts.

Although I try to limit indulging in this delicious treat, I just can’t resist making it for myself once a year, usually on my birthday.

Ingredients

  • 1 jar of dried beef slices, rinsed well and chopped
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups milk

  • Sea salt and freshly cracked pepper to taste
  • Toasted bread

How to Make Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast

  1. Start by thoroughly rinsing the dried beef slices as they tend to be quite salty. Once rinsed, pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Chop the beef into small, bite-sized pieces and set them aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  1. Add the flour and a pinch of cayenne pepper to the melted butter. Whisk the mixture until well combined and cooked through, which should take about 45 seconds.
  2. Gradually pour the milk into the saucepan while whisking continuously.
  3. Once all the milk has been added, include the chopped dried beef to the pan.

  1. Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, for a few minutes until it thickens.
  2. Taste the creamed chipped beef and season it with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper according to your preference.
  3. Serve the creamy beef on top of toasted bread immediately and savor every delicious bite.

Indulging in a bowl of creamed chipped beef on toast is like taking a trip down memory lane.
